Avantium Provides Update on FDCA Flagship Plant: Titanium Weld Repair Program Completed
1 May 2026
Avantium N.V., a leader in renewable and circular polymer materials, confirms that the previously identified construction‑related titanium weld issues of its FDCA Flagship Plant have now been fully resolved, in line with the required quality and safety standards.
The remediation work was executed in close collaboration with SRI Speciaal Roestvrijstaal Industrie, a Dutch industrial engineering and fabrication company based in Veenwouden (Friesland) specializing in high‑complexity equipment and welding work for the process industry, under the supervision of Bilfinger, a multinational industrial services and engineering company. The successful completion of the weld repair program underscores the strength of regional cooperation and technical expertise in the Northern Netherlands.
Commissioning activities at the FDCA Flagship Plant continue. Utilities and the Sugar DeHydration unit are operational, and work remains focused on the final commissioning and start-up steps for the oxidation and purification units. The expected timelines for start-up of the Flagship plant and sales under Avantium’s offtake agreements remain unchanged. Avantium continues to expect to commence commercial product sales in the second half of 2026, in line with its previously communicated outlook.
Hero de Jager, interim Chief Operating Officer of Avantium, commented: “We are pleased that the titanium weld repair program has been completed. The close cooperation with SRI has been essential in ensuring that the repair work was carried out safely, efficiently and to the required specifications for reliable plant operations. With this important milestone behind us, we can fully focus on completing the remaining start‑up activities while keeping our operational and commercial plans on track.”
About Avantium
Avantium is a pioneering commercial-stage company focused on renewable & circular polymer materials. Avantium develops and commercializes innovative technologies for the production of materials based on sustainable carbon feedstocks, i.e. carbon from biomass or carbon from the air (CO2). The most advanced technology is the YXY® Technology that catalytically converts plant-based sugars into FDCA (furandicarboxylic acid), the key building block for the sustainable plastic PEF (polyethylene furanoate). PEF is known under the brand name releaf®, an EU registered trademark of Avantium. Avantium has successfully demonstrated the YXY® Technology at its pilot plant in Geleen, the Netherlands, and is in the process of starting the world's first commercial plant for FDCA in Delfzijl, the Netherlands. Avantium works in partnership with like-minded companies around the globe to develop revolutionary renewable chemistry solutions from invention to commercial scale.
Avantium’s shares are listed on Euronext Amsterdam and Euronext Brussels (symbol: AVTX). Avantium is incorporated in the Euronext Amsterdam SmallCap Index (AScX). Its offices and headquarters are in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
